Last month finally we went to Valle de Bravo - although this little town is only 2 hours away from Mexico City, it took us 2 years to get there. As the rainy season started in May, we didn`t plan or reserve a hotel beforehand, just went for a one-day trip on a weekend when the weather was good.
So we packed Zorro, our dog on a sunny Saturday and headed for Valle de Bravo. There is a highway almost all the way to the town, but (as its name also says), the town is in a valley, and the final 20kms on curvy, narrow road took us about 1 hour only.
Valle de Bravo is said to be the weekend spot for the rich in Mexico City - which explains why the street and parks are well maitained. In the winter through spring, not far from the town you can see the monarch butterflies - the surrounding is all mountains and forests, so it is also a great spot for sport lovers. Also, around the town there is a huge artificial lake where you can waterski, jetski or only take a boat to look around. To take advantage of the valley, there are many tourist officies to offer paragliding over the town.
As we didn`t have any concrete plan, we just parked our car and walked around - first went to the lake, but probably we were on the right side, as we only found a place where the ships would depart. As we took our dog, we were looking for a place where you can walk along the lake and maybe Zorro would have been able to swim. As we didn`t find such place, we headed back to the town center - it was hot, so after a while we headed back to the car and went home.
Unfortunately, we found some good shops only on the way back, but it is almost impossible to stop in this small town (moreover, almost all the streets are one-way which makes the transportation more complicated), so the shopping will be next time.
