Weekend leisure in Mexico - La Marquesa National Park

(text in ENG, JPN)

Rain, rain, rain…that characterizes the weather in Mexico City lately. Last week the rainy season was quite nice, it was raining mainly in the evenings, but this year seems to be different. First we thought it was only the influence of a hurricane on the south, that the sky is cloudy all day, but it turned out, this will be like this year`s rainy season. Thick clouds for 5 months! On some days it is only cloudy and rains in the evenings, but some days it showers with shorter or longer pauses all day.
But the last weekend was rarely nice weather – there were only a few clouds, mainly shiny, so we went out immediately. We headed somewhere where we could release Zorro, our dog. The perfect place seemed to be La Marquesa. It is a huge park on both sides of the Toluca highway just outside of Mexico City. When I say park, don`t think of neatly cut grass and planted flowers – it is rather like a national park, with swamps, woods, huge meadows…and what makes it a park are the many many diners, soccer fields, and other leisure facilities like quads, go-kart trails, opportunities for horseback riding etc.
As we went with a dog (and without cash as it turned out – both of us thought the other had cash), we just strolled around. First we went to a swamp – actually it looks like a pond from the distance but as we went closer, it turned out to be a swamp. It was a shame because we wanted Zorro to swim a little bit. However, it didn`t stop him – he just ran around in the water-filled grass and even jumped into the water two times where he could access. Turns out, Welsh Corgis like water! After the “refreshment” he was just running around in the huge field – obviously his sheepdog origin was coming to the surface. We even met some horses that were grazing on the fields, and as our dog is extremely friendly, of course he went there to see them. Just sniffing around the tail, legs even the horse`s face! Unfortunately we didn`t have a camera, because it was really funny how this small, short-legged little dog tried to make friends with a huge horse!
Anyway it seemed to be a great place to have fun, even to spend a whole day there – make a picnic, go horseback riding, try out the go-karts or just make a good walk around far from the cars and civilization.
